Specialist IB Economics tuition at 5 Tank Road. Taught by a university-level Economics lecturer with experience in the US, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Unlock your full potential in IB Economics with personalised tuition from Ms Bea — a highly qualified tutor with a Master's degree in Economics and years of experience lecturing at universities in the United States and Tokyo.
Ms Bea brings both academic rigour and real-world economic insight to every session. Her students don't just learn the syllabus — they develop the critical thinking, diagram accuracy, and structured essay technique that IB Economics examiners reward. She has a proven track record of helping students in Singapore and Hong Kong excel at both HL and SL.
At Photon Academy, our IB Economics programme covers the full syllabus — microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics — with targeted support for Internal Assessments (IAs) and exam technique throughout.
Assessment: Paper 1 — extended response (one micro, one macro). Paper 2 — data response. Internal Assessment portfolio (3 commentaries).
Hours: 150 teaching hours.
Content: Core syllabus — microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, development economics.
Best for: Students who want a solid grounding in economics to complement other subjects, or whose university pathway does not require HL Economics. Excellent preparation for business, humanities, and social science degrees.
Assessment: Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 (HL only — policy analysis and quantitative skills), Internal Assessment portfolio (3 commentaries).
Hours: 240 teaching hours.
Content: All SL content PLUS HL extensions: more rigorous quantitative analysis, additional macroeconomic models, extended treatment of international and development economics.
Best for: Students aiming for Economics, Finance, PPE, Business, or Policy degrees at university. Many top universities prefer or require HL Economics for these programmes.
Not sure whether to take HL or SL? Ms Bea can advise based on your university aspirations and current economic foundation.
IGCSE Economics introduces concepts at a surface level. IB Economics demands genuine understanding — students must be able to evaluate policies, discuss real-world implications, and argue multiple perspectives using economic theory.
IB Economics papers reward structured, balanced evaluation above all else. It is not enough to describe a concept — you must analyse causes and effects, consider stakeholders, and reach a justified conclusion. This is a skill that takes time and deliberate practice to develop.
IB Economics requires students to connect theory to current global events and case studies (drawing on data from sources like the World Bank and IMF). Papers regularly reference real economies, trade agreements, and policy debates. Ms Bea's international teaching background brings these connections to life in every lesson.
IB Economics HL introduces quantitative analytical skills beyond standard IGCSE content — including calculations on national income, exchange rates, elasticity, and budget balances. Paper 3 (HL only) tests these skills directly under timed conditions.
Ms Bea holds a Master's degree in Economics and has lectured at universities in the United States and Tokyo. Her academic depth means she can explain complex macroeconomic models and microeconomic theory with clarity that no textbook can match.
Ms Bea teaches students exactly how to structure Paper 1 essays, tackle Paper 2 data response questions, and approach Paper 3 (HL) quantitative analysis. Students learn the difference between a 6 answer and a 7 answer — and how to consistently write the latter.
Group sessions are capped at 4 students. Ms Bea can address individual gaps, correct misconceptions in real time, and give every student the attention they need to progress.
The Internal Assessment requires three commentaries applying economic theory to real news articles. Ms Bea guides students through article selection, concept application, and evaluation — helping them maximise marks on this 20% component.
Our IB Economics tuition covers all four units at both SL and HL, plus comprehensive IA commentary guidance.
Topics marked HL are additional Higher Level content.
IB Economics is a subject where understanding the real world is just as important as knowing the theory. Ms Bea's lessons connect every unit — Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, and Development Economics — to current events and real data, so students can write with genuine analytical depth in exams and Extended Essays.
Perfectly drawn and correctly labelled diagrams are worth significant marks in every IB Economics paper. Students practise every core diagram — AD/AS, PPC, market equilibrium, Lorenz curve — until they can reproduce them accurately under exam conditions.
The difference between a 5 and a 7 in IB Economics is almost always evaluation quality. Ms Bea trains students to construct balanced arguments, consider stakeholder perspectives, and write confident concluding judgements.
The three-article IA portfolio counts for 20% of the final grade. Ms Bea supports students through article selection, commentary structure, and the application of economic theory — turning the IA from a burden into a reliable source of marks.

What Our IB Students Say
5.0 stars from verified Google reviews. See what students and parents say about Photon Academy.
IB Economics SL covers the core four units — microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics — in 150 teaching hours. HL covers the same units in greater depth across 240 hours, adds quantitative analytical extensions to each unit, and includes Paper 3, which tests policy analysis and numerical skills. HL is preferred or required by many universities for Economics, Finance, PPE, and Business degrees.
SL students sit Paper 1 (two extended response essays — one micro, one macro) and Paper 2 (data response across all four units), plus an Internal Assessment portfolio of three short commentaries. HL students sit the same plus Paper 3, which introduces quantitative policy analysis. The IA contributes 20% of the final grade.
IB Economics is significantly more demanding. IGCSE introduces economic concepts descriptively; IB requires students to evaluate policies, argue competing perspectives, apply diagrams precisely, and connect theory to real-world data. HL adds further quantitative analysis. Students who found IGCSE Economics manageable often need structured support to make the transition successfully.
Yes — IA guidance is included in all programmes. Ms Bea helps students choose current, relevant news articles, identify the correct economic concepts to apply, structure their commentary clearly, and evaluate effectively to maximise marks on this 20% component.
